…is Bright Black Heaven.
13 is the second best number after 1.
who tells me the exact and accurate source of the chai and muffin quote. (“Old ladies come up to me all the time telling me to find God. Look, all I want to find is some chai and a good vegan muffin.”) I’m pretty sure the source exists somewhere on the internet (I think I’ve seen it?), but google…
Well I love a good hunt. This took longer to find than I’m willing to admit. For the vegan muffin quote, the article is called “Despairing with AFI” and was in the April 17, 2003 Rolling Stone. It seems like no one ever bothered to scan it because it was on Rollingstone.com but sometime in the past year or two it’s been deleted from their archives.
FOUND IT. Thank you! (I think I owe you at least half of a kidney now… send me your address if you really need it >_>)
With his dyed-black hair twisted up in chopsticks, Havok is a dead ringer for the Material Girl’s Asian-earth-mother incarnation — you wait for the flock of doves to fly out of his belly. But it takes a disapproving Madonna fan at a Dean and Deluca gourmet food store in New York to point out the similarity. “I’m relieved that’s all she wanted,” he says. “Usually, old ladies tell me to find Jesus. Look, I’m just trying tofind some chai and a good vegan muffin.” And that’s, decidedly, not punk rock.

ON THAT NOTE,
“exact and accurate” sources for any other meaningful and/or genuinely humorous quotes (BY Havok or ABOUT* Havok) are very very welcome and appreciated.

PS. The other kidney goes to the one who can give me the source of that quote that starts with “Hate humanity? Yep, sure do. …” (when explaining the song “Smile”).
/—/ The third line expresses the conviction that there is a future lightened by a fire. The image of fire, which is also part of the name of the band and suggests passion and a certain destructive nature, is here the symbol of a better world. “We ignite” can be understood as an intransitive or a transitive verb. /—/
/—/ This attitude embodies a pursuit of clarity and integrity while demanding a certain readiness to make sacrifices (cf. “Sacrifice Theory”). Many of his works show that Havok sees no other way to achieve peace of mind than by living a life coined by fight and sacrifice. /—/

He’s always been very outspoken against religion though, so I guess the cross is probably just a carry over from that. However… I think he should let it go now. I mean, I love them to death, but it’s just something that he’s made his stance on very clear and now he’s just flogging a dead horse.
I know, I know, and not “probably” but “obviously” — but I feel that an inverted cross is more up the alley of pseudo-Satanists rather than serious atheists. It’s just… a little silly? Okay, whatever, just my opinion.
I actually think he should flog that horse some more, and more directly. His opinions on things tend to be quite interesting, though I think we’ve heard enough about, say, veganism and teetotalling, and not enough about religion, from him.
[Random sidenote: I went to check whether Havok was listed in Wikipedia’s list of teetotallers. He is. Somewhere above Hitler and below Che Guevara.]
Davey’s fucking tweets are so annoying. Can you possibly. Create. Proper. Sentences? Davey I know your ass went to UCB for a while, fucking why are you doing this?
Why. Are you. Typing like this. Mr Havok?
the inverted cross as his icon immediately set me against him ngl
like
can you just quit trying to be that guy already? it’s getting old.
LOL.
The whole thing with the crosses makes him look obsessed with Christianity, I don’t understand why he’d want that. Oh well.
IMHO he may have gotten just a bit carried away with the punctuation abuse, but it doesn’t bother me too much.
I’ve been amused by how AFINewsHQ and BBH com manage to translate/interpret his tweets into something generally understandable.

The AFI side project for Davey Havok and Jade Puget, Blaqk Audio will be touring Australia this March. The duo last released ‘CexCells‘ in 2007, and while they have had a new album ‘Bright Black Heaven‘ complete for a little while, there is no solid release information as yet, though it is expected at some stage this year. The duo will be touring as support for Evanescence around the country.

Off-topic. Posting anyway. Because it’s a gif of Davey touching himself. Which is always on-topic.
When brightblackheaven.com says “appeared on our radar” it means “Mary saw it on tumblr”.
Apparently that gif still makes me lol. Posting.
